The Independent Bookseller™ partners with Matchbook Marketing to process co-op claims on behalf of bookstores participating in Matchbook Marketing’s print newsletter program.
How it Works: Matchbook Marketing selects titles to promote in each of the six annual editions of the print newsletter. Some of these titles are eligible for co-op credits. If a bookstore has direct accounts and orders the minimum required amount to qualify for co-op, they can receive credits for participating in the newsletter program. (Not all publishers require a minimum buy -- some provide co-op regardless of whether you order any of the featured titles!) |
What it Costs: The Independent Bookseller will collate and submit your claims for the Matchbook Marketing newsletter for $100 per issue. Matchbook Marketing will pay the first issue’s co-op filing fee.
Getting Set Up: Once a bookstore has signed up to participate in Matchbook Marketing newsletter program, they can opt in to have The Independent Bookseller process co-op claims for eligible titles in each issue. The Process: Upon the release of each issue, participating bookstores will be asked to complete a form to let us know whether they purchased the minimum quantity of those titles that require a minimum purchase. Bookstores can do this by completing the form below:
The deadline to complete the minimum purchase form is the 15th day of the first month of the newsletter edition (so if the January/February edition, the deadline to submit your minimum orders is January 15).
Claims will be processed and then emailed or otherwise submitted via publisher instructions. Bookstores will be cc’ed whenever possible but account information will never be shared between stores. Once claims have been submitted, we'll send an invoice for $100, and will attach a complete list detailing all submitted claims and the total value of co-op requested.
Note: Claims will not be processed if a bookseller has not paid the invoice for a previous month’s claim submission. If you have an unpaid invoice, we will send them in advance of the form submission deadline.
Is it worth it? For $100 per issue, bookstores save the time and energy of creating the claims and wading through the submission process. On average, bookstores can claim nearly $1200 in co-op PER ISSUE (a potential annual net profit of $6600). Most stores do not order every co-op eligible book, and not all stores have accounts with each participating publisher. Even still, participating bookstores receive an average of more than $800 in co-op per issue — a net annual profit of $4200.
